Keep up with Kathy

Though Kathy is quite the workaholic there must be playtime.

Rhythm and Fitness Dance StudiosI  started dancing when she was very young and recently rediscovered that joy with hiphop classes. Tamarr Paul at Rhythm and Fitness Dance Studio in Goleta is one of the most dynamic, talented teachers I've ever known. We recently did two flashmobs and have more in the works.

Pittsburgh SteelersAs a Pittsburgh native, you have to love football. I don't mean, sort of watch IF it's on. I mean like, seriously LOVE football. I am a crazy Steeler fan and actually injured my husband one year with a Terrible Towel in the eye. Can't sit too close when Big Ben is on the TV. Disappointed we lost the Superbowl last year, but we still have more wins than any other team and will make it again soon.

My husband and I take great pleasure in enjoying good wine and food. With him being a restaurant critic and wine and food writer, we get to enjoy some amazing meals. We travel quite bit to enjoy those two things in combination and alone.

Cute kitten with sock

And for more companionship, we must have the kitties. I have 2 cats. We just got a new kitten after I had to put both my 18 year old boys to sleep this year. But Toby aka Lil Guy is a true joy...and could he be cuter?

Uther, Lord of Pendragon. In early 2007 I had to make the hard decision of amputating one of my first cat's legs. (Well, I personally didn't do the amputation, my medical knowledge is not that vast.) That time was one of the hardest in my life, trying to decide what would be the best for my first and favorite kitty. Uther had to be put down in May of 2010 because the cancer had spread to his lung. It was one of the hardest moment, but he purred in our arms at the moment of his passing. Uther will be remembered forever!

The second oldest cat, Pellinore had to be put to sleep in February 2010 after dealing with renal failure. It was a hard journey but he had a phenomenal life and is resting quietly. A bit of history of the name: Pellinore wandered aimlessly as if searching for some invisible purpose. And actually, the king he was named after was in a neighboring kingdom to King Arthur and was thought to be mad as he was always searching for some mythical beast. Hmmm.

Lilith, our tabby, still rules the house, even with the little one present. Her name means "downfall of man" and boy is she named correctly as she captured my husband's heart the second he met her. Though theoretically she is my cat...she is very much HIS cat.

Our newest adventure was scuba diving and we are now hooked. And not only was I hooked, I was poked....by a very aggressive urchin. It just lunged at me. Well, actually, I sort of fell on it. Which I do NOT recommend. Luckily it was just my knee and I got all the broken spiny things out of it. We haven't been recently but I'm looking forward to getting back in the water...and avoiding the urchins!

Kathy Gruver doing improvisation

And of course as a former actor, I still have to flex those muscles every once in a while. So I pop into improv on the occasional Wednesday night to play.
